After nearly eighty years, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is world famous. From February to November, the Tony Award-winning complex features major plays by the Bard, and others among the world’s greatest classical and contemporary playwrights, in three splendid theaters. The outdoor Elizabethan Stage/Allen Pavilion, with a stage and an 1190-seat auditorium in keeping with the original Globe Theatre of Shakespeare’s time, has evolved through multi-million dollar renovations and enhancements. The prized indoor 600-seat Angus Bowmer Theatre and the intimate 360-seat New Theatre (to be renamed Thomas Theatre in 2013) assure ideal playing spaces for any production. Guided backstage tours let visitors see what goes on behind the scenes at the Festival’s theaters. The Tudor Guild Gift Shop (tudorguild.org) offers a wealth of quality gifts related to Elizabethan times and to Ashland.
