Wallowa Lake is the top destination in Eastern Oregon for fresh water recreation. It fills a long-gone glacial trough for five miles between a lush pine forest surrounded by craggy peaks and a sage-covered terminal moraine where the ancient glacier stopped in the broad Wallowa Valley beyond the mountains. Boating, waterskiing, parasailing, fishing and swimming are all popular during summer. Hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, and horseback riding are enjoyed around the lake and beyond in the vast Eaglecap Wilderness. A visitor-friendly village in the pines by the south end of the lake offers all kinds of food, lodgings, and recreation opportunities.
